CFE-20 - Communications Front End Module

CFE-20The communications front-end processor module CFE-20 is a powerful 96 MHz embedded processor system integrating all peripheral interfaces such as serial ports, CAN field bus interfaces, Ethernet ports and Flash/RAM memory on one hybrid chip. A SD flash hard disk holds all application software and non-volatile data.

The Real-time multi-tasking operating system allows several CFE-20 modules to be combined in a parallel processing system via Ethernet with various software applications distributed throughout the system. The embedded software controls and manages

Process control or computer systems with different operating systems can be added to the system and easily linked to internal software applications using UDP or TCP/IP communications via Ethernet.

The CFE-20 has four on-board serial communication ports, which can be expanded to eight ports through a serial port extension module in a designated rack slot.

Two USB ports are available. The type B socket is used for diagnostics and configuration and the type A socket can accommodate a memory stick for system software update or other customized data logging applications.

The CAN Bus standard with CANopen device profiles is used as field bus interface connecting the CFE-20 to field input/output modules via inexpensive plastic fibre cables in a star arrangement. A second CAN bus port is user application programmable.

LEDs on the front panel allow the operator to monitor data traffic on all communication channels and the module status. User programmable LEDs are reserved for application specific software applications.

The field termination modules CFT-10 is provided for all external cabling. The CFT-10 module is located on the rear. side of the system rack.
