The TIC-10 module is a precision time source based on a fully integrated GPS receiver hybrid.
The GPS module provides time information via a multi-drop serial port onto the system backplane. Data traffic and bus timing is controlled by an embedded micro-controller. A One-pulse-per-second TTL port accurately synchronizes all installed CFE modules. Time and data is being broadcast periodically via the serial port.
The GPS module requires an active GPS antenna. This could be a low cost antenna for indoor usage or a rugged outdoor antenna. Antenna open and short circuit detection are standard features for the module. All module status and error information is available to the backplane via the time synchronization bus. This information is used and maintained by connected CFE modules in their local databases.
An internal real-time-clock maintains and updates system time in case of losing satellite fix.
The module can be configured for all time zones around the globe.
Two TIC-10 modules linked via the system backplane operate as redundant master/standby time source arrangement with automatic time source change-over feature.
The module provides connectivity for two independent CAN bus ports. One port terminates in a four channel fiber optic star coupler for SystemCORP WebCAN field IO modules.
The CAN bus fiber optic channels have to be linked to CFE modules using the WebCAN Designer configuration software. The four fiber optic channels can be linked in various configuration options to one or two CFE modules.
One option also allows to link eight fiber optic channels of two TIC-10 modules to one CFE module.
The second CAN bus port provides an optical isolated multidrop connectivity node via a RJ12 socket for other CAN applications.
